Bradbury, famous for his science fiction, delves into his own writer's past and the noir realm of early 1950s Venice, California for this dark mystery novel. Echoes of his early novels ring in this more recent (1985) book, which is full of the ominous air of decay and death. The protagonist is undoubtedly Bradbury himself as a young author exploring mysterious deaths of forgotten and lonely characters in Venice. An all around enjoyable read, but occasionally (and surprisingly) oppressive in atmosphere.
