Abstract: During solar flares magnetic field energy is converted into heat, mass flows, electromagnetic radiation, and energetic particles by magnetic reconnection. The plasma outflow from the reconnection region can become super-Alfvenic. Then, a so-called termination shock is established in the far outflow region. At this shock electrons and protons can be accelerated up to high energies by shock drift acceleration.
