Auroral Research in the Atmospheric Emissions Group of SSL at UCB


The Aurora is an ionospheric phenomenon which can be observed in the north and south polar regions. The dominant green emission at 557.7 nm is created after the collision of energetic electrons with Oxygen atoms at about 90-140 km. Red Aurora emission at 630.0 nm wavelength is created after the collision between energetic electrons and Oxygen atoms at about 150-300 km altitude.The main instruments we use for the scientific investigation of the aurora are
