Long Duration Ballooning in Antarctica

Scientists with the Space Physics Research Group (principal investigator: Prof. Robert Lin) fly large balloon-borne X-ray and gamma-ray detectors to observe solar flares and high energy phenomena such as black holes and neutron stars elsewhere in the universe.

The experiments are flown on high altitude, long duration balloon flights from McMurdo Station in Antarctica, with the help of NASA's Scientific Ballooning Program.
