Comparisons of modeled and measured Dst index

The plots below show comparisons of various methods for calculating Dst from solar wind parameters, based on modifications of the original formula of Burton et al. (JGR 80, p4204, 1975). The plot labeled UCB or Fenrich is from the approximation used by Fenrich and Luhmann (GRL 25, 2999, 1998). The curve labeled UCLA is from a version using the decay constant expression developed by O'Brien and McPherron (JGR, 1999). These predictions all use ACE Real Time Solar Wind data from NOAA SEC and the ACE team. They are superposed on measured Dst from WDC2 at Kyoto, Japan.
