From our Team telecon Wednesday, November 15, 2000: and other news from the Project telecon Nov 20 * Project items for IMPACT - Project says STEREO has to deal with post Phase A budget issues related to spacecraft increased science accommodation costs. They will hold a small workshop on Dec 1 at APL for that purpose. IMPACT will have local reps from our GSFC team and will be connected to UCB by telecon. IMPACT has already descoped solar array ESC requirements except for paint on the back of the panels, and taken on the booms at decreased cost to Project. Other items expected to be discussed will be FOV, contamination, and EMC requirements. FYI the SECCHI high data rate RS422 line has apparently been eliminated. If you consider this will impact IMPACT, email your concerns. (It of course means the 1553 will carry everything.) - Project announced that they have now selected Abby Harper's replacement: our current GSFC instrument engineer Haydee Maldonado will take over as GSFC Project Manager. Abby says that she will effectively switch roles with Haydee until a new GSFC systems engineer can be appointed. - Schedule/Budgets: NASA No-Cost extensions to the end of November should be in effect. Subcontractors need to get their Phase A budgets signed off and delivered to Dave Curtis. Provisional funding will be made available through the existing contracts to take us to end of February '01. At that time new SOWs and budgets for Phase B will have been solicited and will kick in according to Project (those involved in NASA funded efforts for Phase B should thus expect to be asked for a revised budget sometime in the first few months of the new year.) Launch is currently set for Dec '04, with 4 month Phase B extension, and 2 mos C-D extension. - Peer Reviews. We have requested to delay the requested Software Review. Project agreed but would still like answers to the questions Dave Curtis distributed. SEP please respond after the budget matters settle down. Dave has already submitted answers for IDPU. SEP- have you responded????? - Risk Management: Project has offered a Risk Management software package to Dave Curtis. This is viewed as an investigation lead level tool. Contact Dave Curtis if you have questions about it. - ITAR: LOAs have been sent out from NASA. The agency for our Hungarian CoIs has returned their signed LOA to NASA. * Instruments - Boom Design: Project has asked for a boom splinter after the SWG meeting ends, the afternoon of Dec 14 at UCB. Contact Dave Curtis if you want to participate. - SEP needs to resolve remaining FOV issues and bracket design issues with APL on the redesigned spacecraft (Tycho) SEP needs to update us on status of this. - ESC and Solar Array modeling study has been completed by Maxwell Technologies. A written report is expected soon. Contact Davin Larson for information. * Other - Tycho will support Contamination Committee activities for IMPACT - Dave Curtis still needs to know what was spent during Phase A and Bridge by GSFC team members (533s type information) for the record ******************************************* IMPORTANT DATES Nov 31 End of no-cost extension for the above Dec 01 STEREO Rescope Workshop at APL Dec 12 next IMPACT team meeting at UCB SSL Dec 13-14 STEREO SWG at UCB SSL ******************************************* Websites to Check periodically for updates http://sprg.ssl.berkeley.edu/impact http://sprg.ssl.berkeley.edu/impact/dwc https://sd-forum.jhuapl.edu/stereo/
