Observational studies of:
  1. Magnetic field reconnection at the dayside and flank magnetopause using CLUSTER, AMPTE/IRM, Equator-S, and Geotail data.
  2. Diffusive entry along the flank magnetopause for northward IMF using WIND data.
  3. Plasma depletion layer and its dependence on the IMF using AMPTE/IRM, WIND and CLUSTER data.
  4. Cold and dense plasma sheet and its dependence on the solar wind conditions using CLUSTER, WIND and Geotail data.
  5. Particle distributions in bursty bulk flows using WIND data.
Theoretical modeling of:
  • The low-latitude boundary layer and its coupling to the ionosphere.
  • Magnetic annihilation at the dayside magnetopause.
