October 23, 2007:

Microflares with RHESSI & Hinode

Iain Hannah, SSL

I will be presenting analysis of small flares with RHESSI and instruments on Hinode. With RHESSI we have over 25,000 microflares observed since March 2002 and so I will present statistics of these microflares. The image and spectrum of each event has been analyzed so that particle heating and acceleration (the thermal and non-thermal energies) can be estimated. Hinode is a joint Japan/UK/USA solar spacecraft launched 09/2006 with an optical, EUV and soft X-ray telescopes on board. I will present some microflares for which deatiled analysis with both RHESSI and Hinode has been conducted, helping us further investigate the energization processes in these small flares.
