"Quiet Sun? What Quiet Sun?" First Results from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) Extreme Ultraviolet Variability Experiment (EVE)
Dr. Frank Eparvier,
LASP
Almost from the first moment EVE started making measurements of the solar EUV spectral irradiance, we realized we were observing the Sun in a new way, and were seeing things we had never seen before. From flares to daily fluctuations, the wealth of data from EVE and the other instruments on SDO are giving us new insight into the Sun's dynamic nature. I will be giving an overview of the EVE instrument and data, and summarizing some of our first science results. All I can say is that we're very glad we launched SDO during the "quiet" at the end of the long solar minimum, when the Sun is still relatively simple!
