• Quiet-sun model atmospheres show that an increase of

about 100 K at the temperature minimum can account for

the weakening of the photospheric line cores.

• Unfortunately, chromospheric lines are also partly

formed in these layers and would be similarly affected.

This is not observed.

• Apart from unknown instrumental causes, the present

1-D quiet Sun models cannot account for the observations.
