Movie caption: Line-of-sight Doppler movie of AR10720 during the X1.2-class flare of 2005 January 15. Seismic motion is constantly produced in the solar interior by convection, but this is suppressed in a magnetic region (center of frame). The impulsive phase of the flare is referenced to time 0.0 min at flare maximum, 00:42 UT. A strong disturbance abruptly appears one minute before this ~40 Mm to the right of frame center, spreading in both directions along a line inclined approximately 40 degrees north of west to a span of approximately 80 Mm in 3--4 minutes. Ripples can be seen propagating outward north-east, almost directly above the initial disturbance from ~20 minutes after the impulsive phase to the end of the movie.
