Labyrinths

by Jorge Luis Borges

Time itself is the subject of this collection of short stories. Borges studies the twisted manifestations of this ethereal subject through images of dreams, death, darkness and language. The stories are haunting and even occasionally amusing, yet the atmosphere of humankind's imprisonment in Time is pervasive. The surreal layers and, indeed, labyrinths of the book are convoluted paths of understanding. Borges describes our unique perception of time through the strange occurrences that come with imagination. His stories are disturbing and thought-provoking. His style imaginative (very much like that of Italo Calvino).
