ACE/RHESSI He3 events

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS/ETC. to Säm Krucker, krucker@ssl.berkeley.edu, 510 643 3101

NEW: movies of the AUGUST 2002 events

Movies show TRACE images (green color table) with RHESSI contours.

all events are from the same active region and look similar: TRACE shows brightenings and a jet. RHESSI shows emission from the main flaring loops that are also seen in TRACE (e.g. 2002aug21 01:43:19 UT). this emission is seen best at 10-20 keV (red contours), hence the emission is mostly thermal. the contours at 30-100 keV (blue),however, are not always coming from the main flaring loops seen in TRACE, but sometimes from a region next to them (e.g. 2002aug21 01:41:54 UT).

Comments to events from Glenn's list

February 20, 2002 around 06UT (day 051)

2 nice electron events at 1 AU, 2 main GOES peaks, 2 main type III. however, RHESSI missed the whole action. only observations in the post flare phase.

May 30, 2002 around 05UT (day 150)

electron event seen down to ~1keV, RHESSI coverage ok, the earlier and later phase of the flare is missing.

Oct 05, 2002 around 12:20UT (day 278)

NO WIND DATA FOR THIS DAY. Rhessi counts around 12:20UT are non solar produced by magnetopheric particles.

Dec 12, 2002 around 12:35UT (day 346)

perfectly nice event, except no RHESSI data (during night)

Aug 19-23, 2002 (days 231-235)

several electron events

Aug 19, 2002 around 11ut

missed

Aug 19, 2002 around 15ut

missed

Aug 19, 2002 around 21ut

pre-event background extremly high for electron data, and unclear dispersion. very impulsive HXR event, thick shutter moves.

Aug 20, 2002 around 2ut

similar event as aug 19, 21ut: pre-event background extremly high for electron data, and unclear dispersion. less impulsive, thick shutter moves too.

Aug 20, 2002 around 8ut

pre-event background extremly high for electron data, dispersion ok. very hard x-ray event, thick shutter moves.

Aug 21, 2002 around 2ut

pre-event background extremly high for electron data, onset late relative to HXR peak. very hard x-ray event, thick shutter does not move.

Aug 22, 2002 around 2ut

pre-event background still high, onset late relative to HXR peak, slow rise then sharp peak. HXR different than before, less impulsive, long duration peak, thick shutter does not move.
