Lesson 1: An introduction to the visual aurora (as seen from the ground)
Because this lesson is an introduction to what the aurora looks
like from the ground, you don't need to spend too much time
reading about magnetic
storms and substorms, sun flares and coronal mass ejections and
other such terms. You will learn about these things in following
lessons. Browse the lower links (copied from Jan Curtis'
page "Aurora's Northern Lights"*) to see
spectacular photographs of the aurora. Don't forget to write down
questions as you are looking at the photographs!
