February 5th, 2008 . by schristeThe Bay area has two major airports, Oakland International Airport (OAK) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). SFO is farther away but cheaper flights can sometimes be found there. Both airports are easily accessible by public transportation.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
from SFO airport
Follow the signs to the BART train. Take any train from the SFO Bart Station (it’s the end of the line) to get to the East Bay. Check here for a station map.
from OAK airport
Exit the terminal and cross the first street to take the AirBART bus. Fares can be paid on-board the bus with exact change only or with $1.00 or $3.00 BART tickets. Change machines can be found inside the terminal. The AirBART will drop you off at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station. Take the Richmond or Pittsburg/Baypoint Trains going North.

from SFO airport
Take 101 N toward San Francisco and follow signs for 80 E/Bay Bridge.

Exit the terminal and follow signs to 880N. 880 N will take you towards downtown Oakland.
