RHESSI Tohban report, week ending February 2, 2003 Lyndsay Fletcher 1. Solar Activity: Solar activity was low. There was an M 1.2 flare and a C9.9 event on February 1st. RHESSI may have rise-phase data for these events. Overall there were 15 C-class events, but only 6 above C2 level. The baseline GOES flux was below B3 for the early part of the week, ramping slowly up to B6 between Jan 31st and February second. It is now waning again. The low level of flaring however did not prevent there being significant geomagnetic activity - since the middle of Jan 29th the Kp index has been yellow or red for most of the time. This may be due to a large, low-latitude coronal hole rotating across the disk. 2. Memory Management: Due to the low level of activity, we spent the entire week in T3 (see http://sprg.ssl.berkeley.edu/~dsmith/hessi/decimationrecord.html) Memory has stayed below 40% fill level for the entire week, reaching 0% after all the dumps early in the week 3. GOES SXI Though fuzzy compared to what we have been used to with Yohkoh SXT, GOES SXI movies are available online and can be used to identify active regions which have intense Soft X-ray emission - In the days of Yohkoh SXT these were generally the regions most likely to flare. This may help in anticipating memory usage. SXI data are online at http://sxi.ngdc.noaa.gov/sxi/servlet/sximovie 4. Tohban Tohban for next week will be J. McTiernan
