Talk:Relative and (maybe) Absolute RHESSI Detector Efficiency: 2002-2008

This is really excellent, but I wonder if the approach taken is truly optimal for doing a cross-calibration. Fitting a model may add noise, and if RHESSI and GOES fit different models, that may multiply the noise. A more direct and objective way to do the comparison might be to take the RHESSI spectrum as measured, interpret it in terms of the photon spectrum, and then fold that spectrum through the GOES response. This way one could compare raw counts with raw counts. True, there is the step of converting the RHESSI spectrum into photons, but that is a lot less ambiguous than converting the GOES spectrum into photons. The practical problem with this approach would be that it may be hard in principle to get access to raw GOES data.
