Solar Activity

We've got flares! There were 4 X-class flares this week. These were produced by two different active regions. The first two, on October 25, occurred in 11882 near the eastern limb (but on the disk). The second two, on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29, were from AR 11875, which is just rotating off the disk. The Oct. 29 flare is right on the western limb and may be slightly occulted. This AR is a good candidate for producing occulted flares in the next day. Of the ARs remaining on the disk, two of them are producing M flares. However, the GOES base level has dropped steadily since 11875 is rotating off. STEREO-B does show at least one more AR that will rotate onto the disk in a few days.

How many GOES flares occurred?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 0 63 23 4

And how many of these are listed in the RHESSI flare list?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 0 42 14 3

And how many had EXCELLENT coverage?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 0 26 9 0

There were RHESSI flares/GOES flares 479 / 90 over the time range 23-Oct-13 30-Oct-13

Memory Management

Due to high solar activity, the SSR fill reached a maximum of 50%, with a minimum of 15%. We switched to Active / Vigorous mode this week and turned off rear eclipse data (front eclipse events were already turned off) in order to keep the memory fill down. (Plus/minus 4 minute data is still on for both fronts and rear.)
