RHESSI Website Migration
I continued working on the RHESSI Website migration, adding content including video and slideshows. Most of the past week was spent working on the website. This involved figuring out how to edit typoscript to insert the extensions that have been uploaded. These include the slideshow, embedded video, and an rss news reader extensions, as examples. Most pages have preliminary content or links to final documents. The website should be ready for preliminary launch by the end of the week.
RHESSI Albedo Imaging Test
Pixon images were created for a flare on 5Nov2010 near the limb. The image was created with the following parameters:
- Time: 5Nov2010 00:53:00 - 00:54:04
- Detectors: D1,D2,D3,D4
- Energy: 12 - 25keV
The pixon image created with these parameters is shown below.
The pixon image shows a compact source near the limb with a much weaker source slightly to the south. The stronger compact source is of interest because we can use it as a test case to compare to the simulated data we have been using. The first test was checking the flux radially from the center of the compact source radially outward.
The plot below shows the flux as a function of the radial distance from the source center.
The plot above shows the average value of the flux, the minimum, and the maximum values. The flux values after approximately 4 arcsec are due to the second weaker source. The more interesting aspect is the region from the source center out to 4 arcsec. The minimum value drops off quickly while the maximum maintains a fairly constant value until approximately 3 arcsec where we see a small rise in the maximum flux. This looks like the characteristic behavior we see with the simulated data near the limb.
The following plot shows the flux of the simulated data near the limb and near disk center. For a comparison to the above plot the purple traces showing the flux near the limb are the ones of interest.
The purple trace, showing the behavior of the simulated data near the limb, shows some of the characteristics of the real 5Nov2010 data. The minimum falls off quickly, while the maximum falls off much more slowly, with a small bump at 4 arcsec.
This looks like it merits further exploration.
RHESSI Clean Imaging Test
The final set of images for phase one of the RHESSI Imaging test were created. The clean image sets are below:
Goals for next week
- Clear up appearance issues with the RHESSI Website, check all pages for correct content
- Combine all data from the RHESSI Imaging test for all algorithms into image maps with contours for each algorithm. This will allow us to have a visual representation of the imaging tests. Extract the C statistics from the image objects for each Clean image, to compare them in the cases of using different parameters (detectors, clean_beam_width_factor, etc.) to create the images.
- Continue testing the 5Nov2010 flare against the simulated data to see if we are imaging an actual albedo contribution that follows the theoretical model. This means applying the methods used on the simulated data of compact sources with albedo to this actual data.
