Basic Editing

Most simple editing (e.g. bold, italics, links, section headings, etc.) can be found in the tool bar above the editing window. In case that does not work here is a quick run-down.

italics

''italicize text'' by putting 2 apostrophes on each side.

bold

3 apostrophes will embolden '''the text'''.

Section headings (used to automatically create table of contents)

== Section Heading == by putting 2 equal signs. More equal signs creates sub-headings.

Lists (unordered)

Are created by putting a * at the beginning of the item. More stars created nested lists.

Lists (ordered)

  1. item 1
  2. item 2
Are created by putting a # at the begining of the item. More number signs creat nested lists.

Superscripts and subscripts

Superscripts and subscripts

Links

In a wiki, there are two kinds of links; intra-wiki links (those that lead to other articles on the same wiki) and external links which lead anywhere.

To add a intra-wiki link to the RHESSI wiki

surround the title of the article by [[double brackets]]. Even if the page does not exist the link will be created.

To add an external link

use the syntax [http://www.example.com external link]

How to add categories

Categories are used to maintain some organization to the wiki. To add an article to a category put the following at the end of the page you are editing.

[[Category:NAME]]

where NAME is the name of the category you want to add it to. Any number of category tags may be added to the page - the page will be listed in all of them.

You can find a more in-depth guide to wiki editing here.
