Solar Activity

The sun has been active this week, producing 3 M-class flares and 42 C-class. The most active region continues to be NOAA 11865 this week, it is 3/4 of the way across the disk and is still magnetically complicated. It is forecasted to continue to be active in the coming few days with a slight chance for more M flares. Earlier in the week, there was an occulted M-class flare over the NE limb. Stereo B shows that later in the week we can expect another AR to rotate onto disk.

How many GOES flares occurred?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 7 42 3 0

And how many of these are listed in the RHESSI flare list?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 5 30 3 0

And how many had EXCELLENT coverage?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 3 11 0 0

There were RHESSI flares/GOES flares 318 / 52 over the time range 08-Oct-13 15-Oct-13

Memory Management

Due to increased solar activity, the SSR did not fully empty at the end of pass sets. It is currently at ~4%. The decimation was changed to active_vigorous and extra passes were added this week.

We are taking data all night for both fronts and rears. There was discussion of changing the decimation to normal_vigorous and reducing the night data. The group decided to keep the spacecraft at active_vigorous decimation and taking all-night data.

Spacecraft Status

The cold plate 1 and 2 are at about 118.2 K and 116.6 K respectively. The length of eclipse is growing, and the temperatures are expected to decrease. The other systems are nominal.

Data Gaps

2 gaps in VC1 data, the data is not recoverable.

Detector issues

The recurrent noise issue in detector 9 is still present.

There were spikes observed during shutter motions. They were short duration, and were present in many detectors. The cause is likely due to microphonics.

Other notes

A spin-up was delayed on 2013-10-11 due to increased solar activity. A spin-up is due this week, at the discretion of the next tohban.
