The Bastille Day (July, 14) Solar-Terrestrial event of 2000 began with
an X-Class Flare on the sun.
The region where the flare was generated was nearly at the sun's central
meridian.
This EUV image of the sun from SOHO-EIT shows the central location
of the flare at
approximately the time of the peak in soft x-ray emissions observed
at Earth (10:24 UT). These
x-ray emissions were observed by GOES 8 and 10.
