TELEVISION IN THE SKY

A Cathode Ray Tube and Aurora Creation Analogy

Particle Interaction and Ionization

The Aurora in the Sky  The Image on Your Television Screen

Charged particles moving along the earth’s magnetic field lines are accelerated by these strong voltage drops in the auroral acceleration region.

This allows the accelerated particles to be guided and travel down the earth’s magnetic field lines where they collide with atmospheric molecules and atoms.

The amount of energy and the type of atom or molecule hit creates the auroral light seen in our atmospheric screen in the sky..

The front of your television or computer monitor is coated with chemicals called "phosphors".  Phosphors glow when electrons hit them because of the energy with which they hit and the type of atoms present within it.

A typical color screen contains red, green, and blue phosphor dots
