Responsibilities include designing experiments for and operating the electron beam ion traps EBIT-I and SuperEBIT, including operating high-resolution crystal, grating, and microcalorimeter spectrometers, analyzing data from laboratory measurements and orbiting X-ray observatories, and fielding diagnostics at University of Rochester’s Omega Laser Facility.
Faculty Research Associate and Co-Lead Calibration Scientist for Suzaku’s XRS, NASA/GSFC: 2002-2004
Contracted by the University of Maryland for 2002-2004, and by The Johns Hopkins University for 2004. Responsibilities include, calibrating Suzaku’s XRS, including blocking filter quantum efficiency, and detector absorption and spectral response. Key player in observational planning for in-flight calibration of the XRS on Suzaku.
National Research Council Fellow and Co-Lead Calibration Scientist for Suzaku’s XRS: 2000-2002
Responsibilities include acquiring data with an engineering spare XRS NASA/GSFC 6 X 6 microcalorimeter array located at LLNL, helping to assemble and disassemble the microcalorimeter’s Dewar and electronic system, traveling to LLNL to conduct experiments at the EBIT-I electron beam ion trap, and analyzing data.
